When you are a Christian or any other religion where you have a Creator, prayer is probably the most important part of your belief system, or at least it should be. That is, at least what I think. I got this book from a box of of books from my sister and it was a great reminder. How To Talk With God by Joyce Meyer is a simple reminder of some very basic things about how to talk with your Creator. It should be basic because it really is just talking to your best friend, at least He is YOUR best friend.

When you don’t know what to do…
When you have a need…
When you feel anxious and afraid…
When someone offends you or hurts your feelings…
When you are sick…
When you are discouraged or feel like giving up…
When someone you love is suffering…
When you have a problem of any kind…
PRAY!

Prayer doesn’t have to follow a program or have fancy words. Prayer doesn’t have to be like anyone else’s style. God knows you. He actually already knows what you are going to say to Him so you don’t have try to be posh or fancy, just say it. If you are angry, He can take it. If you are happy, PRAISE HIM! If you have a question, ask Him.

Tips to Lead You to Better Talking With God:

  • The more we enjoy our relationships with God the more we enjoy prayer.
  • God leads each of us to pray in our own way — don’t copy anyone.
  • God is a friend — Prayer is just talking to our friend.
  • God likes a simple honest prayer.
  • Be thankful that God doesn’t answer prayers that are not according to His will.
  • You can’t have powerful prayers without love for each other in our hearts.
  • We must forgive other if we want to have powerful prayers.
  • Be humble to address your struggles.
  • Be grateful.
  • Don’t give up — be persistent with prayer.

I have to be honest, there are relationships that I have neglected that this book reminded and encouraged me to talk to Him about in better ways. I have even got tired of asking for things and given up and this book reminded me not to give up. I am glad this little book fell into my lap. Maybe you will enjoy it too.

I got this book from my sister, Jamie Holloway. You can get your own copy of How To Talk With God by Joyce Meyer on Joyce Meyer’s website.

My name is Summer. That is how you can call me. I hope that I am a blessing to you. I am not perfect. I will fall again. But I am forgiven.

For anyone reading this that isn’t a Christian, unapologetically, I am a Christian, but I believe there is room for lots of beliefs and religions in the world. It is not my intent to offend people with different beliefs than I have and I would be open to open-minded conversations with no goals of changing anyone’s mind, but sharing information.

If you are interested in becoming a Christian…Do you know Jesus? Do want the Holy Spirit to fill you and give you understanding and salvation? Ask Him. Want someone to pray with you? Contact me.

If you would like to know Jesus as your friend, but want to make this amazing commitment by yourself please pray something like this:

Thank you Jesus that You are the Son of God, the God that created heaven and earth. Thank you Jesus that You came to earth in the form of a man so that You would be able to empathize with my humanity. Thank You that You did this in order to fulfill the promises You made at the foundation of the world.

I realize that I am a sinner and do things that hurt myself and keep myself away from you. Thank You that You died for my sins so that You could defeat death and bring me into Your life. Please forgive me.

I ask You to be Lord of my life. I ask you to heal my hurts and show me what my new life, empowered by You looks like. Thank You for Your mercy.
