1 Corinthians 3:9-16

For we are God’s fellow workers; You are God’s field, you are God’s building. According to the grace of God which is given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stray, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire: And the fire will test each ones work, of what sort it is. If anyone’s work, which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

When Karen had a whole in her work schedule, yesterday, we decided to splurge and go to PhoEver for a late lunch/early dinner. It was so nice to be somewhat carefree, like our old selves, for a moment. Parking somewhere and just talking, while life went on around us. As I listened with half an ear to Karen’s speech about how Capitalism and Socialism can abide together in “her United States…” I also waved at a person I had known during time that I had volunteered at Love Overwhelming. He was working with another man, begging for money. I could see he had a cold. I could also see evidence of recent drug use. I was suddenly very angry at him. I didn’t want to be reminded of his need while I was having a rare moment of frivolity. Even after Karen had gone back to work I was struggling with myself.
In one moment I stood between two perceptions: Jesus told us to love each other, as ourselves & I didn’t want to have to be reminded of this man’s need while I was enjoying a moment of frivolity. Their survival skills were imposing on me a choice to be angry with them because they were not using their resources wisely or to love them because I understand addiction, brokenness, and the ability to not choose life. I wanted them to go away. I wanted to have a place for them to go. I was in the way.
Joshua 1:5
“No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you.”
I remember hearing 1 Corinthians 3:9-16 when I was about 17 years old. Since then I have been asking God to test my works by fire now. I don’t want to wait for the Day. I think a wall came down. I can’t wait to see what God has for me next.
Psalm 139:1-4
O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.

My name is Summer. That is how you can call me. I hope that I am a blessing to you. I am not perfect. I will fall again. But I am forgiven.

If you would like to know Jesus as your friend, but want to make this amazing commitment by yourself please pray something like this:

Thank you Jesus that You are the Son of God, the God that created heaven and earth. Thank you Jesus that You came to earth in the form of a man so that You would be able to empathize with my humanity. Thank You that You did this in order to fulfill the promises You made at the foundation of the world.

I realize that I am a sinner and do things that hurt myself and keep myself away from you. Thank You that You died for my sins so that You could defeat death and bring me into Your life. Please forgive me.

I ask You to be Lord of my life. I ask you to heal my hurts and show me what my new life, empowered by You looks like. Thank You for Your mercy.

Amen

The Lord is with you always.
