The Extraordinary Deaths of Mrs. Kip by Sara Brunsvold begins with Clara Kip, who currently lives in Kansas City, relocating to Sacred Promise Senior Care Center. She has cancer that has aggressively metastasized. Mrs. Kip is 79 years old. She has lived an amazing life although it is not the life she had planned with her husband that died only 8 months after they married.
“But God was good to provide a better story. His stories usually are better than anything we can come up with. He gave me lots of friends and love and adventure, right where I was. I was short on family, but I was never low on blessings.” Mrs. Kip, Chapter 16
Aiden Kelley is a rookie journalist at the Kansas City Star that was given the job to write Mrs. Kip’s obituary but found a much more important story as she got to know this amazing woman and became her friend.
In the 70’s Mrs. Kip helped reunite refugees left behind in Laos by soldiers that had fought for the United States after Vietnam. She and her friends helped them learn English, and other important skills. She also helped some of them get jobs.
Every day Mrs. Kip woke and thanked God for the day and any opportunity to love people and share God’s light. She was a wonderful inspiration to anyone she met up until her last moments. I was greatly inspired by this book.
I got this book from my sister, Jamie Holloway. You can get your own copy of The Extraordinary Deaths of Mrs. Kip by Sara Brunsvold on Amazon.

I could not put this book down. Mrs. Kip is an amazing soul! Even as she is dying she is an inspiration. She uses every moment she is awake to love the people around her and be a blessing and ends up helping Aiden, the rookie journalist sent to write her obituary, learn how to have have an extraordinary life. This book is a must read!

My name is Summer. That is how you can call me. I hope that I am a blessing to you. I am not perfect. I will fall again. But I am forgiven. For anyone reading this that isn’t a Christian, unapologetically, I am a Christian, but I believe there is room for lots of beliefs and religions in the world. It is not my intent to offend people with different beliefs than I have and I would be open to open-minded conversations with no goals of changing anyone’s mind, but sharing information. If you are interested in becoming a Christian…Do you know Jesus? Do want the Holy Spirit to fill you and give you understanding and salvation? Ask Him. Want someone to pray with you? Contact me.
If you would like to know Jesus as your friend, but want to make this amazing commitment by yourself please pray something like this: Thank you Jesus that You are the Son of God, the God that created heaven and earth. Thank you Jesus that You came to earth in the form of a man so that You would be able to empathize with my humanity. Thank You that You did this in order to fulfill the promises You made at the foundation of the world. I realize that I am a sinner and do things that hurt myself and keep myself away from you. Thank You that You died for my sins so that You could defeat death and bring me into Your life. Please forgive me. I ask You to be Lord of my life. I ask you to heal my hurts and show me what my new life, empowered by You looks like. Thank You for Your mercy.
