This is an idea that should be passed around, regardless of political party. This is not the complete and original message. I found this online and I have edited it based on my own ideas.
Congressional Reform Act of 2026
1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congress representative collects a salary while in office and receives no pay from the United States government when they’re out of office. And no more perks go with them.
2. Congress (past, present, & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. Social Security may not be used for any other purpose.
3. Congress must purchase their own retirement plan, just as ALL United States citizens do.
4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise at the same rate as the Cost of Living Adjustment for monthly Social Security recipients minus 1% if having a budget balance deficit.
5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system (Medicare) as the American people.
6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people (i.e. NO MORE INSIDER TRADING!!!).
The House just voted down H. Res. 1100, a bill that would expose sexual misconduct in Congress. Do you think that they will ever vote in these rules of engagement, no matter how practical, honorable and effective they are? We must find a way to hold Congress and state governments accountable because, consistently We The People are not being abided by.
7. All contracts with past and present Congress representatives are void. The American people did not make this contract with Congress representatives. Congress made all these contracts by and for themselves.
Serving in Congress is an honor and privilege, NOT a career.
8. TERM LIMITS. After 2 (4 year) terms in office. Congress and State Legislature Representatives must pass with 75% of the constituent’s vote to remain in office. This will ensure that We The People are being truly represented.
9. NO ELECTORAL COLLEGE. This was necessary when people had little to no access to information, but this is no longer true and I will read to anyone who is illiterate and needs help; there are others who will help, as well. Our votes must stand as is.
10. No bribes. Proof of money or any type of payment in exchange for a favor or official action will include dismissal of position and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators should serve their term(s), then go home and go back to work … not get all kinds of freebies.
