JUSTICE IS A TRANSFORMING EXPERIENCE

Spiritual formation is a transformation of the soul

• a change of mind
• a change of emotions
• a change of volition
• a new way of being

Volition: The cognitive act or an instance of making a conscious choice or decision. Primary human psychological function also referred to purposive striving.

JUSTICE DISTURBS THE SOUL

What the soul craves and needs for ultimate change is to be disturbed, bothered, broken and remade.

• Seeing the pain of others disturbs the soul.

The Lord gives us passion for ministry. Waiting until we are “mature” to start creates dispassion.

Spiritual growth doesn’t only happen inside the walls of a church building.

Relying on the church for growth gets us stuck 1/2 way to where God wants us to be.

We must close the gap we have created between ourselves and others. We must make ourselves the least and last.

Justice is an action word.

We must include the excluded:

• Jesus touched lepers
• Jesus challenged inequality of women
• Jesus embraced children
• Jesus defied racism
• Jesus cared for immigrants
• Jesus rejected bigotry
• Jesus challenged the self-righteous
• Jesus advocated for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the prisoners and sinners

We must act like Jesus.

Spiritually shallow people do not understand justice.

Justice places the needs of others before their own.

Justice causes people to risk their own safety.

Some ways we can see justice:

• Businesses profiting less by offering health insurance for employees
• Standing up for co-workers who are experiencing bias due to gender or race
• Volunteering at Hospice or shelters
• Doctors going to poor countries to help sick people
• Families taking in foster children
• Churches hiring female pastors
• People working toward ending the exploitation of women and girls

Jesus thank you for disturbing my soul so that I can become who you created me to be in full. I want to experience the fullness of You in my inner man. Lord please guide me in the direction of the passion You created for me and help me to bring honor to You with my life. Amen
