Mark 4:3-9
“Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow, and it happened, as he sowed, that some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds of the air came and devoured it. Some fell on stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth, but when the sun was up it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away. And seed fell among the thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no crop. But other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, increased and produced; some thirty-fold, some sixty, and some a hundred. And He said to them, ‘He who has ears to hear, let him hear!’”

The Lord has always been my strength and shield even when I didn’t know it. He deserves every praise of my heart!
I have read Mark 4:3-9 many times and even relied on the explanation Jesus gives in verses 4:14-20, but today as I read this, I understand that this was a path I had been on, my whole walk with Christ. As I was growing, I accepted the simple explanation, that there are many kinds of people and I certainly didn’t want to be a person with a heart Jesus could be plucked out by the birds of the air or didn’t have enough “good” earth to grow and produce much fruit. But I see that thought process is asking for judgement and division, because if I work to have the best soil, that I am also guilty of leaving scraps for my neighbor….and that is not loving them as myself.
Today I understand that at different stages in my life I have been at every type of ground and as I grew to trust Jesus to continue to sow His good seed and remove the rocks and weeds, to make room for His crops to yield greater amounts, at the timing He and I were ready for, it becomes a dance, where He leads. He knows what I am capable of, what He wants to accomplish and some seasons are all about clearing fields of rocks and weeks that come up deeper and some seasons are for resting the soil, others for growing and harvesting. He is a good master and He makes us ready for each season. Thank You Jesus!

Thank you Jesus that You are the Son of God, the God that created heaven and earth. Thank you Jesus that You came to earth in the form of a man so that You would be able to empathize with my humanity. Thank You that You did this in order to fulfill the promises You made at the foundation of the world.

I realize that I am a sinner and do things that hurt myself and keep myself away from you. Thank You that You died for my sins so that You could defeat death and bring me into Your life. Please forgive me.

I ask You to be Lord of my life. I ask you to heal my hurts and show me what my new life, empowered by You looks like. Thank You for Your mercy.

Amen
