Dear Representative and President Trump,

I am writing regarding wildfires in Canada. Fire season in Canada officially began in January, however it did not pick up momentum and size, this year, until mid-May. In particular, this early start of the season was slower and less catastrophic as seen in previous years. People in Ontario are being told to stay indoors due to unhealthy air conditions.

According to an article released by the BBC, today, which states that Toronto, New York and Washington are on top of the list of most polluted cities due to wildfire burning, many fires are still out of control. People are being evacuated from their homes and houses and infrastructure are being destroyed. The Namaygoosisagagun First Nations Tribal Community has been decimated with little warning.

There are 955 wildfires actively burning across Canada, nearly 200 are burning in Ontario, which borders Minnesota. Wildfires are common in Canada, however the amount of increase has grown considerably. This is not a surprise. Both The National Interagency Fire Centre in the United States and National Resources Canada predicted that the continued high temperatures and lack of precipitation would cause this.

What I am upset about, however not surprised, is that our president has suggested to impose new tariffs on Canada to cover what he is calling “willful negligence.”

Trump said, “The United States is being unnecessarily invaded by filthy, polluted, and unhealthy air.”

I want to tear my shirt and find some ashes to pour on me head, but I quit smoking over 20 years ago and I don’t have a fireplace. What happened to sending help to our neighbors in need? Because Canada has always come to help us when we needed them. Dear Representative, in my opinion, the filthy, polluted and unhealthy anything we have, is a government that does not serve their people and their neighbors.

When are you going to find your integrity and throw this piece of man wannabe out of our White House and find someone with real character, who we can be proud of, to fix all the messes he has made? I have asked Trump to resign. I have asked Congress to impeach him. There used to be honor in Congress but I guess you all have decided money is more important than your honor or even We the People.

Please help Canada.

Sincerely,

Summer D Clemenson
